Using Helios RXPF to accelerate Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) such as Snort

Posted on April 19, 2017

Snort is an open-source network intrusion detection/prevention system (NIDS/NIPS) which allows users to define sets of rules for network traffic analysis and threat detection. Snort rules make use of two pattern matching approaches: first, bulk literal string scanning and second, regular expression matching.  Helios RXPF is ideally suited to both of these pattern matching approaches and can perform both literal string scanning and regular expression processing in parallel.

Titan IC's engineering team has been working to optimise the use of our hardware accelerated regular expression processor Helios RXPF to accelerate Snort running on Intel(®) based host CPUs.
