Professor John V McCanny CBE FRS FREng IEEE Fellow

Professor John McCanny is an international authority in the design of silicon integrated circuits for Digital Signal Processing. He has published 260 major journal and conference papers, 5 research books and holds 25 patents. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society (of London) the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, the IEEE and a Member of the Royal Irish Academy. Professor McCanny co-founded two successful high technology companies, Audio Processing Technology Ltd. (www.aptx.com), which markets audio compression products to the broadcast industry worldwide and Amphion Semiconductor Ltd. (www.amphionsemi.com), a leading supplier of semiconductor “intellectual property” (complex chip designs) for applications such as digital TV, mobile multi-media devices, 3G cell phones and digital video recorders.

Dr Godfrey Gaston

Dr Godfrey Gaston graduated with a MEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Queen’s Universityof Belfast in 1988. He then went on to complete a PhD at the University of Edinburgh in the field of Microelectronics and Semiconductors in 1992. Godfrey has held management and engineering roles at GEC Plessey Semiconductors and BCO Technologies. Godfrey is currently Director of the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT), based at Queen’s University Belfast, where his role involves both the day to day and strategic management of the centre, including business, academic programme and project management.

Mr. Hal Wilson serves as Investment Director & Partner at Techstart NI. Mr Wilson has significant venture capital fund management experience, gained from over 20 years of active investment in the early stage technology market in the UK and Ireland. Hal has led multiple investment rounds across hardware and software businesses and has been involved in the creation of value in excess of £100 million.

D Moore

Mr David Moore

David Moore is Investment Manager with QUBIS Ltd, the early stage investment fund responsible for the commercialisation of technology from The Queen’s University of Belfast. He has extensive experience of high-growth venture capital backed businesses across a number of technology sectors from incorporation through to exit and currently holds Non-Executive Board positions with several of the QUBIS Ltd spin-out ventures. Prior to joining QUBIS Ltd, David worked with a regional development agency specialising in high growth export orientated technology businesses and was a Systems Engineer within the defence industry. David has a primary degree in Engineering, a Masters degree in Business Strategy and a professional finance qualification.
